Samsung’s latest cutting edge gadget, the Galaxy Z TriFold, had to face major drawbacks about its quality concerning its life span when reviewed by tech reviewer Zack Nelson from JerryRigEverything. The TriFold, unlike the Galaxy Z Fold 7, was unable to take the same punishment, and it lost the screen during the bend test which was the turning point for the test. The outcomes have created doubts about the gadget being ready for the market and daily consumption.

The TriFold’s cover screen, which was claimed to be sturdy due to the presence of Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2, started getting scratches at the hardness level six of the Mohs scale and other deeper grooves were formed at the level of seven. The folding part of the internal display which was likely made out of plastic, was very lightly scratched at the grounding level of two and showed more of a noticeable indentation at level three. Such results indicate that Samsung might be underestimating the damage that the two screens could take.

Checking the fire and dirt resistance also let out weaknesses of the device. While being subjected to a lighter, the outer screen suffered burning for approximately 17 seconds, whereas the inner screen gave in after only 10 seconds and showed burn marks. The dirt tests proved that the hinge was cracking and creaking under pressure from the shifting of particles across the main screen, thus indicating that the problem is quite serious and could be there for a long time.

The most shocking result was from the bending test. While the Galaxy Z Fold7 was able to withstand bending in both directions, the TriFold was not. Bending the gadget from a corner resulted in a change in shape and backward bending was accompanied by a loud cracking sound and the screen went totally dark, which was a sign of serious structural failure.

The weak points of the TriFold's design were its antenna lines even though it came with an Armor Aluminum frame. Nelson thought that the device's failure was mainly due to the thinness of these antenna lines. Even though the hinges passed the stress tests, they were still not strong enough to allow the phone to endure the types of pressure that occur in everyday use without breaking it.

The initial effort of Samsung in manufacturing a smartphone with three folds signifies an advancement in technology but also reveals huge durability problems. It is possible that the TriFold will come up with new designs before it can be able to have a market that is more robust in terms of foldable devices than the existing one.
